Purpose

Provide an experience where students continually work towards their highest musical potential, and thereby develop and hone strong musicianship and personal character.  The West Park Panther Band program is a place where students are safe, supported, and give them the musical opportunities they deserve.

CALENDAR


Marching Band (Fall Semester)

Open to all instrumentalists and guard performers.  Rehearsals take place during class period (1st period Woodwind & Brass, 2nd period Guard & Percussion), Monday and Wednesday evenings (5:45pm-8:45pm), and select Saturdays.  Performances at football games, community events, and competitions throughout the state.  Annual mandatory band camp takes place on campus prior to the start of the school year.

Symphonic Band (Spring Semester)

Meets during the school day in Spring semester.  Sections for winds (1st period) and percussion (2nd period - class titled Percussion Ensemble).  Rehearse and perform traditional and contemporary wind band literature.  Performances on campus as well as concert festivals.  Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Indoor Percussion students must be co-enrolled in Symphonic Band. 

Jazz Band (Year Round)

Meets during zero period both semesters.  Rehearse and perform in a Count Basie Orchestra-style big band setting.  Swing, blues, Latin, funk, and more.  Audition for placement may be required at the beginning of the school year.  Performances on campus as well as jazz festivals.  Must be co-enrolled in Marching Band and Symphonic Band.

Percussion

Drumline and Front Ensemble perform as part of Marching Band in the Fall semester and in Symphonic Band (percussion class is titled Percussion Ensemble) in the Spring.  Beginning in late November through Spring semester, all West Park instrumentalists may take part in Indoor Percussion, where co-enrollment in Marching Band and Symphonic Band is required.

Color Guard

Guard performs as part of Marching Band during Fall semester.  Like Indoor Percussion, Indoor Guard begins in late November and continues through Spring semester.  Prior dance experience recommended but not required.
