What will happen during this time?
We will be practicing the Shelter, Lockdown, and Evacuation drills from the district-adopted SRP (Standard Response Protocol). We will spend the majority of the time on the Evacuation drill to allow time for staff to practice various roles and station set-up and operations. We will also have our local first responders and the team from Catapult (our messaging service) here for training purposes.

How to Prepare (for parents):
We ask that parents avoid picking up or dropping off their student during this time. During a real emergency, parents should avoid coming to the school to allow access for our first responders.

How to Prepare (for students):

  • Use the restroom prior to the drill.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
  • Wear sun protection (e.g. hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) - we will be on the field for about 30 minutes.
  • Bring water and something to do while you wait (this is time for the emergency stations to practice).
  • Bring your backpacks with you to the field. You will be dismissed for lunch once the drill ends.

Frequently Asked Questions (for parents):

  • What if I need to drop off my student during the drill? You may either wait in your car until the drill ends (12:04pm), or you may drop your student off at our Parent Pick-Up Station located on Panther Place on the backside of the football stadium (at the furthest gate).
  • What if I need to pick up my student during the drill? You may either wait in your car until the drill ends (12:04pm), or you may help us with our practice event by requesting your student from the Parent Pick-Up Station located on Panther Place on the backside of the football stadium (at the furthest gate).
  • Will parents receive any notifications during the drill? No. We will send out plenty of messaging leading up to the drill to make everyone aware, and one at the end of the day to let everyone know how it went.
  • Will there be special care given to students who are medically fragile? Yes. Students with severe handicaps will be with Mr. Brooks and the paraeducators in a shaded area.
  • What if I do not want my student to be included in any of the recordings or photographs on this day? Please email Mrs. Hurd at bhurd@rjuhsd.us with your request by Monday, 10/16/23 (we will also be sure to omit any students who have already opted out through the data confirmation process at the beginning of the year). All videos and photographs will be used for training purposes, so we will have live photos and footage for next year when we train our staff and students. Additionally, CatpultEMS and first responders may also take photos and record to assist with training, planning and preparation in the event of a real emergency.
